Chicago, IL - Illinois Tech women's soccer hosted a Spring 7v7 tournament on Saturday at Stuart Field. There were eight teams in total and one of the teams consisted of all IIT soccer alumni. The alumni produced a great turnout in the first annual 7v7 tournament. Both the current team and the alumni team for Illinois Tech made it to each respective semi-final match with the alumni team bowing in overtime to Roosevelt and the current Hawks getting past Purdue Calumet 7-2. Roosevelt eventually outlasted the Hawks 2-1 in the final in what was a rematch of a 5-2 Hawk win earlier in the day.
The alumni presence was the key to a successful event. Former Scarlet Hawk soccer players traveled from across the country; some for the first time since leaving campus upon graduation. Those alumni who made it to the first annual event were -Heather Bickerton, Samantha Cosenza, Jessica Carlson, Diana Otero, Lauren Capuano, Grace Durbin, Kay Durbin, Megan Meeke, Stephanie Salem, Lauren Wissman, Meagan Sarratt, Ashlie Ingold, Noel Deis, Erica Delgado, and Emily Kunkel.
Head Coach Ahmet Kose was more than happy with the event and is looking forward to hosting more like it in the future. "It was a pleasure to put this event on and although I didn't coach all of these former players myself, I was really proud to meet some of them and watch them enjoy being back with old teammates. That's what it's all about."
