Katie Reifert (formerly Zulandt) enters her third season as Head Women’s Volleyball Coach and second as Head Men’s Volleyball Coach. She is the first Head Coach in the history of Illinois Tech men’s volleyball.
Prior to arriving at Illinois Tech in August of 2014, Reifert was the lead Assistant Coach for NCAA Division I Loyola University (Maryland) women’s volleyball for the 2013 season. She assisted in recruiting, handled travel planning, aided in the coordination of team practices and film sessions, created scouting reports, and worked intensively with the team’s attackers. In 2011, Reifert also served as head coach of the varsity and junior varsity programs of National Cathedral High School in Washington, D.C.
Reifert enjoyed an extensive amateur and professional playing career before entering the collegiate coaching ranks. As a four-year starter at middle hitter for George Washington University, Reifert collected various accolades. In her senior season, the team captain was named Second Team All-Conference in the Atlantic 10, ranking second in the league and 46th nationally in hitting percentage (.357%). She was also voted Team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year by her coaches and teammates as a senior.
Reifert also spent time playing professionally in Europe. She competed in the Professional International Federation of Volleyball for the Kuusamo Pallo-Karhut club in 2012, starting at middle blocker for the Finnish Division’s first-place finisher. She then competed in Switzerland’s top league for FCL Luzern in the winter of 2014, starting at middle blocker.
Reifert graduated from George Washington University in May 2011 with a degree in Geography and a minor in Geographic Information Systems. She resides in Chicago with her husband Justin.
