Before coming to IIT Bugby spent the past three years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the United States Military Academy at West Point. During his time, Army broke 17 team records, produced 4 Patriot League champions, and he assisted Ayman Andrews to a 20th place finish in the 100 LCM Butterfly at the 2012 Olympic Trials. He also coached the women’s 200 Freestyle Relay to the women’s program’s first Patriot League relay victory since 2001.
Prior to West Point, Bugby was the head coach for both Lehigh Valley Aquatics and Freedom High School, both in Bethlehem, Pa. While at Freedom, Bugby developed 1 All-American, saw 3 team records fall and guided the team to its first points at the PIAA state meet in 15 years.
Bugby also served as a graduate assistant coach at Arizona State University from 2007-2009 while earning his master's degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education. While at ASU, Bugby assisted in the mid-distance stroke and sprint groups, including former American Record holder Nick Brunelli and NCAA All-American Caitlin Andrew.
Bugby swam collegiately at Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh, both in Pittsburgh, Pa., while pursuing his bachelor's degree in Writing. In the pool, Bugby held down a world ranking in the 100 LCM backstroke (2003), while also qualifying for the 2004 Olympic trials in that event. In 2007, Bugby was the Atlantic 10 champion in the 100 SCY butterfly.
A native of Easton, Pa., Bugby has swimming in the family. His sister, Taylor Sostarecz, is a Senior National and U.S. Open qualifier and is currently a senior at Georgia Institute of Technology.
