Andy Brook joins the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawk Swimming and Diving Program this fall and is bringing a wealth of experience along with him. Andy spent his undergraduate work at Kalamazoo College in Michigan where he majored in Computer Science. He was a member of the swimming, water polo, and cross country teams. He will also be primarily responsible for the breaststrokers and IM swimmers.
Prior to coming to IIT, Coach Brook coached for one of the largest competitive swim clubs in Grand Rapids Michigan, the EGRA Waves.
Maria McIntyre joins the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawk Swimming & Diving Program her first year after graduating as a student-athlete from Division I Boston University. In 2011 McIntyre graduated with a degree in physical education and served as captain of the Women’s Swim team. McIntyre was named to the all-conference team all four years of participation from 2008-2011.
In addition to her vast swimming experience that she will bring to the swim team, Maria is also an American Red Cross Lifeguard, a water safety instructor, and is CPR/AED and First Aid Certified. McIntyre will be responsible for the dry land conditioning circuit training program in addition to her coaching responsibilities of working with specifically with the backstrokers and sprinters.
Ryan Nelson joined the Illinois Tech coaching staff in 2003 as the Diving Coach. Prior to his arrival, Nelson served as an assistant coach at the University of Illinois (UIC) at Chicago from 1999-2000.
As an athlete, Nelson brings a legacy of success to the Hawks. A former all-conference diver at UIC, Nelson was a four-year letter-winner for the Flames from 1995-1999. During his tenure, he was a four-time NCAA Zone Championship Qualifier and a three-time All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference selection. Nelson served as the Flames co-captain during the 1998-99 season and was named UIC Athlete of the Year.
In his time at Illinois Tech, Nelson has coached IIT divers to 11 NAIA All-American Titles and 1 NAIA National Championship. Nelson also works as an Associate Director in the Office of Admissions.
