Malfeo went 3.0 innings striking out 3 batters and the only runner allowed to reach base was the one free pass issued. "Malfeo (2-1) took us into extra innings pitching very well and the offense rewarded him with his second win on the mound." Added head coach Scott Marks.
Wesley Williams was charged the loss for the Lions after going 9.1 innings with 9 hits and 2 earned runs.
For the Hawks offense Austin Boos, Adam Samad (FR/Alsip, IL) and Sam Pung (SO/Ludington, MI) all had two hits on the day. IIT scores a lone run in the home side of the 6th inning and then the winning run in the last of the 10th. Alex Babusci had the RBI ground out to the shortstop in the 6th. As for the winning run the rally was started by a James Tarala (FR/Crown Point, IN) walk to lead off the half inning. Tarala then advanced to second base on a wild pitch followed by Bill Cronin (JR/Orland Park, IL) sacrifice bunting Tarala to third base for out number one. Adam Samad stepped into the batter's box and ripped a line drive single to center field to score the walk off win for Illinois Tech.
