South Bend, IN – Mariah Kuitse completed her week with five goals and one assist. Two of those goals came on Saturday as the Hawks were in her hometown of South Bend, Indiana taking on Saint Mary's College. The Hawks lacrosse squad would eventually bow to the Belles 19-4.
Following six minutes of scoreless action to start the game, St. Mary's got on the board twice in the next minute. A little over a minute later, Tech responded with two goals of their own just a minute apart. First, Catherine Cusack scored her fourth goal of the season off of a feed from Ginta Sutkus for her team-leading third assist. At the 20:29 mark, Kuitse scored a great fast break goal to even up the match at 2-2.
The Belles opened up the scoring from there and never looked back putting away the next 14 goals. The Hawks would score the last two goals of the game. Chelsea Badiola added her team-leading ninth goal of the season with 6:45 remaining and then Kuitse finished off an outstanding quick-stick goal off of the feed from Breanne Stromberg.
Defensively, Sara Torres had another solid performance as she has really showed great improvement over the course of the season. "She has been playing the best defensively. She is really becoming a leader on the field and I'm excited to see her continued progression over the years," commented Head Coach Kirk Lamitie.
The Scarlet Hawks have completed their road campaign and will close out the season with two more home competitions. First, on their Senior Day, they will host Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday, April 13th. Their final game of the season will be against University of Dubuque on April 19th at Stuart Field.
