Brian Colon-Rodriguez (SO/Carolina, PR) did all he could to give Illinois Institute of Technology a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Robert Morris University-Springfield, as Illinois Tech lost 5-3 in seven innings at Southeast HS Springfield, IL on Sunday. Brian racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Hawks. He homered in the second inning and singled in the third inning.
James Tarala (FR/Crown Point, IN) (1-2) ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed five runs. Lewis Applegate got the win for Robert Morris University-Springfield. He allowed three runs over seven innings. Lewis struck out 12, walked three and gave up five hits.
Robert Morris University-Springfield was sparked by Chris Johnson and Jesse Guzman, who teamed up for four hits and three RBIs. In the top of the second Illinois Tech took an early lead, 1-0 on the solo home run by Colon-Rodriguez to lead off the inning. Tech also brought home one run in the third inning, and matched that run total in the fourth. In the third, the Hawks scored on an RBI single by Colon-Rodriguez, scoring Austin Boos (SO/Indianapolis, IN).
Robert Morris University-Springfield went up for good in the third, scoring five runs on a two-run double by Ben Shepherd then up on the next pitch a three-run home run by Guzman.
