Chicago, IL - After a successful conference meet, the Scarlet Hawks were back in action at the Midwest Invitational. The Midwest Invite is a last chance meet for NCAA D3 programs held at the University of Chicago. From the Hawks, freshmen Emily Fusilero and Tristan Busch, sophomore Tanner Grieve, and senior Joe Lakner wanted another chance at earning best times.
"All four wanted to see what another week of rest would do," said head coach Eric Bugby. "For me, I get to learn about the individual athlete and their needs for next season. Swimming back to back championship meets pinpoints exactly what works and maybe more importantly, what doesn't work."
Even with the additional rest, the Scarlet Hawks continued to improve. Lakner swam two lifetime best times, swimming a 22.70 in the 50 free and 54.88 in the 100 fly. Grieve swam a best time in the 100 free with a time of 49.61. Busch, continuing with his major time drops from the Liberal Arts Championship meet, swam two more best times of 5:13.34 in the 500 free and 51.69 in the 100 free.
"The team now gets some much needed time off," said Bugby. "It's important to recover physically from a long season, but it's critical to recover mentally and get ready to accomplish our goals for next year."
