Chicago, IL – Illinois tech hosted Indiana University Northwest in women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The visitors entered the game receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll. The Scarlet Hawks didn't shy away from the challenge, but eventually fell 90-34 to the RedHawks.
After giving up a couple of free throws in the second minute, Hawk sophomore Adrianna Maron responded with her 28th three-pointer of the year to take the early 3-2 lead. IU Northwest bounced back on the other end of the court with a three-pointer of their own. Maron then added another three a minute later to take the lead once again 6-5. It was a hot start for the Hawks who traded leads with IU for the first five minutes of the game. Northwest would pull away however, shooting 56 percent in the first half and capitalizing on the 15 first half Tech turnovers.
After giving up 55 first half points, the Hawks were able to hold Northwest to 35 in the second half but just couldn't muster up enough offense to tighten the game up. Lauren Capuano produced a double-double by adding 14 points to her team season lead and dominating the boards with a game-high 20 rebounds.
Illinois Tech will have some time to prepare and study the film as they will face off against the RedHawks again on February 1st in Gary, Indiana.
