Chicago, IL – The Scarlet Hawk men's basketball team showed up on Sunday afternoon to battle the RedHawks of Indiana University Northwest. It was a tale of two halves though as IU pulled away in the second half after a hard-fought first 20 minutes from the Hawks.
Illinois Tech shot a season high 59 percent from the field in the first half, led by Freshman Samuel Rarick's 12 first half points. The first couple of minutes in the game saw both teams trading blows and the Scarlet Hawks forcing an early timeout by Northwest after Anders Bybjerg hit a three-pointer to tie the game at seven apiece. The timeout would prove to be effective as the RedHawks went on an 8-0 run to take the 15-7 lead from there. The gap would get up to 17 points for much of the first half until the Scarlet Hawks put together a 10-4 run to close out the first half trailing by a score of 51-40.
Illinois Tech went cold in the second half only shooting 22 percent from the field and allowing IU Northwest to put a stamp on the victory with a final score of 100-64. Rarick finished with 20 points while adding a game-high 8 boards. Anthony Loss went 6-for-19 for 16 points while Anders Bybjerg put up a career-high 15 points.
The Hawks are back in action on January 25th when they head to Robert Morris University-Springfield for a 3pm tip-off.
