The Men's basketball traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska over the Thanksgiving Holiday to compete in the 25th annual Snyder Classic hosted by The Prairie Wolves of Nebraska Wesleyan University. Along with Illinois Tech and Nebraska Wesleyan, the field included Luther College and Barclay College
The Scarlet Hawks were defeated 99-42 by Nebraska Wesleyan on day one of the classic. The Prairie Wolves jumped to a 13-0 lead and never looked back. The Hawks were unable to match the tough physical play of Nebraska Wesleyan, and allowed the Prairie Wolves to shoot 53.6 percent from the field, and were out rebounded 50-19.
The Hawks were led by guard Anthony Loss with 15 points. Forward Sam Rarick was hampered by foul trouble for most of the game, but also contributed 14 points.
The Prairie Wolves were led by Trevor Johnson with 19 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.
Despite the score the Hawks never quit and continued to fight until the final buzzer.
The Hawks were looking to regroup on day two of the Snyder Classic as they took on Luther College. Illinois Tech jumped out to a lead on a strong performance from forward Sam Rarick who went 6-9 from the field with 12 points in the first half.
The lead would not last as the Luther bench proved too much for the Hawks in the end as it combined for 30 points. Illinois Tech was defeated 79-65 in a game which saw 5 lead changes and 2 ties.
Rarick led the way for the Hawks with 27 points on 13-17 shooting and 6 rebounds. Guard Anthony Loss had a big night as well with 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Austin Cale led the way for Luther College with 18 points.
The Men's Basketball team will be back in action this Wednesday at home against Northeastern Illinois University. Tipoff is at 7:00pm at Keating Sports Center.
