Chicago, IL – Illinois Tech women's soccer finished their 2013 season with a 2-0 loss to Southern Virginia University as they hosted the first Provisional Independent Tournament. In the semi-final match on Friday night, the Scarlet Hawks battled in what was a very physical match and scoreless through 86 minutes of play.
The Hawks started off slow and had to hold off the speed of SVU's attack early on. Hawk defenders and goalkeeper Roxanne Myers did a fine job of denying any goal scoring opportunities by the Knights. However, Tech just could not muster up any great chances of their own in the first half.
With the stalemate continuing through the second half, both teams would have some chances with neither team capitalizing in the attacking third. The Hawks put together some great efforts which missed the frame by inches in some cases, but really didn't test the Knights' goalkeeper all evening. In the 87th minute, Tatiana Monsen finally broke through for the game winner. Two minutes later, with the Hawks pressing to find the equalizer and force overtime, SVU got their insurance goal and the 2-0 victory sending them to the championship match on Saturday evening.
