Chicago, IL – The Scarlet Hawks had their first meet of the 2013-2014 season against North Central College. The women won 5 of the 11 events against their opponents from Naperville, IL. Multiple individual event winners include sophomore Nicole Frantz and freshman Emily Fusilero.
"Nicole came out swinging, winning the 1000 handily and she carried it through the entire meet," said first year head coach Eric Bugby. Nicole Frantz was the team's only three individual event winner with victories in the 1000 yard freestyle, 200 yard individual medley, and 500 yard freestyle. "Nicole has only scratched the surface of her potential," added Bugby.
First year architecture student Emily Fusilero started her swimming career on the right foot winning the 200 yard freestyle in a tight race. She held off North Central College's Lauren Gorski in the final 50. Fusilero later won the 200 yard breaststroke and placed 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle.
Junior Maria Behrens swam a lifetime best in the 100 yard freestyle. Behrens also swam the 200 yard breaststroke for the first time. "Maria is fun to coach and watch perform on a daily basis. She improves every time she swims and comes to practice with a smile on her face. The women are moving in the right direction. This first meet says it all."
The next challenge for the Hawks is at Grinnell College (IA) on November 16 at 3:00pm.
