Another fine defensive effort was the difference in the game, but the contest was highlighted by 14 players reaching the scoring column as Illinois Tech (2-3) captured its second win in as many days knocking off Spalding (1-1) by a score of 73-51.
Illinois Tech was led by freshman Kyle Corbin's 13 points and 4 assists, but it was the overall team effort on offense that garnered the victory for the Hawks. 14 of 15 players that entered the game scored and 10 of the 15 recorded an assist in the runaway victory. Spalding kept it close early leading 11-10 with 12 minutes to go, but Illinois Tech went on a 22-9 run to end the first half and only gave up 7 points in the first 8 minutes of the second half to extend the lead to 49-27. From that point, the Hawks never looked back in taking the 73-51 win.
Complementing the team effort on offense was a great overall defensive effort as well. Spalding shot only 35% from the field, 16% from the 3 point line, and managed only 52 points despite scoring 86 points in their previous game. The team defensive effort was sparked by freshman Andre Boney off the bench with 3 steals.
The Scarlet Hawks take the hardwood again on Wednesday as they travel to Trinity International in Deerfield for a 7:30 tip
