Joliet, IL – Despite being outshot by the home side, Illinois Tech was determined to come out victorious over the University of St. Francis. USF (7-3) held a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal throughout the match. However, Roxanne Myers came up huge making 10 saves on the night. One of her best came midway through the first half getting a piece of a point blank shot and tipping it over the crossbar.
Then, in the 79th minute, with extra time looming, Illinois Tech took advantage of a corner kick taken by Kristen Barrett. Whitney Theisen made a run toward the near post and redirected the ball into the far corner with a clinical header pulling the Hawks ahead 1-0. The drama ensued as the Fighting Saints continued to pressure the Hawks. Myers and the back line of the Hawks held strong to preserve the win and their third shutout of the season.
Tech is back in action Saturday night as Maranatha Baptist Bible College visits Chicago for a 6PM match.
