Chicago, IL – Despite outshooting the Lakers of Roosevelt University, Illinois Tech could not convert enough of its chances to endure the 3 goals they gave up.
From the initial whistle, the Hawks dominated possession and threatened the back line of the Lakers often. A goal for the Hawks seemed imminent but in the 43rd minute, Roosevelt was able to counter attack and capitalize on a Hawk breakdown, slipping the ball into an empty net behind backup goalkeeper Mariah Kuitse.
Illinois Tech bounced back just 1 minute into the 2nd half when Anida Phetchenpheng was able to take on a couple of defenders along the right side of the field. She found Adrianna Maron in the center of the box with a well-weighted pass between two defenders and Maron finished it off for her 3rd goal of the season.
With the score knotted at 1-1, play still favored the Hawks but they just couldn't find the right finishing touch in the attacking third. Roosevelt took the lead in the 60th minute off of a free kick that bounced around in the box and was put away by Liana Imbrogno. They then got an insurance goal in the 73rd minute as Illinois Tech was pressing for a goal.
The Hawks fall to 2-7 and take on Robert Morris University on Saturday.
