Chicago, IL – On a rainy Sunday afternoon, the Illinois Tech women's soccer team hosted Alverno College after a quick turnaround from playing 90 minutes the night before. Adrianna Maron displayed some heroics in the Hawks 2nd shutout victory of the season. She scored 2 first half goals and assisted on a third insurance goal later in the contest.
In the 34th minute, Maron created a chance for herself by applying pressure to an Alverno defender and causing a turnover. She then put a move on another defender and found herself about 10 yards from goal. With a tough angle, Maron was able to drive a shot between the goalkeeper and the near post for the 1-0 advantage.
With less than a minute remaining in the half, Inferno goalkeeper Samantha Robinson punted a ball from the top right corner of the 18-yard box. Illinois Tech sophomore Kristen Barrett leaped into the air at midfield to win the header and direct it toward Maron who took a splendid first touch past a charging defender. With great recognition of where the recovering goalkeeper was, Maron used her next touch to drive a shot inside the right post from 25 yards out giving the goalkeeper no chance to get there.
Anida Phetchanpheng would add a 20 yard shot into the top corner of the goal in the 77th minute and the Scarlet Hawks would hold onto a much deserved shutout victory.
"This was the first game this season that we put it all together," said first year head coach Ahmet Kose. In the short time we've been together as a team, I am happy with how the team has bought into our tactical approach and I think we can have some real success as we continue to work together."
The Scarlet Hawks improve to 2-5 on the year and prepare for their next match at home against Trinity Christian College on September 28th at 1PM. Don't forget to watch the Hawks live for all of their home matches here!
