CHICAGO, IL - The Scarlet Hawks competed at the University of Chicago's in their annual Chicago Duals Championships this past Saturday, and continued to shatter school records. The women's posted 7 wins and only 3 losses in the dual meet scoring format. The Ladies of IIT were victorious against UIC, Loyola, Elmhurst College, Robert Morris College, North Park University, Roosevelt University and the NU track club.
The women's Field team was once again led by freshman Whitney Thiesen, tying for 3rd among college athletes in the High Jump (1.53m) and then setting a personal best and school record in the Triple Jump with a distance of 9.93 meters. In the long jump Natalie Mitrovic and Jacqui Roche showed well in the with distances of 4.04 and 3.70 meters, respectively. Mitrovic also led the Lady Hawks in the shot put (9.72m) followed by Emily Tilton with a PR (8.98m) and Alex Songer (6.04m). Songer finished her day with a PR performance in the200m dash setting a personal record with a time of 32.22.
On the track Veronica Hannink had an excellent day starting IIT of with a bronze in the 55m Hurdles (9.88s), running a personal record in the 55m dash (8.37s) and then posting the fastest leg of the teams 4 x 400m relay which also secured a third place finish. In the 800m run IIT saw many of its Lady Hawks turn in solid times, starting with freshman Abby Jahn running a school record 2:24.25 that was good enough for silver in the event. Jordan Kelch placed 4th overall with a time of 2:30, and Erin Vincent (2:41) and Emily Kraemer (2:42) placed well in their heats. Claudia Garcia was IIT's lone entry in the women's mile and she ran a tough race, finishing in 8th place with a time of 5:57. Success continued into the 3000m run. Freshman Courtney Rouse set a new personal record with a time of 10:49 which was good enough for 4th place. IIT also secured a 6th place finish from Maddy Jensen and a 9th place finish from Anne Crotteau with times of 11:23 and 11:35 (a personal record), respectively in the field of 23. Rounding out the day were the women's relays. The Distance Medley Relay ran to a 4th place finish with a time of 13:50 and the two team entries in the mile relay finished 4th and 7th out of the 12 team field.
