CHICAGO, IL - The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference has announced their 2011 award winners for Men's Soccer. Illinois Tech was able to garner an impressive total of 11 award recipients for the 2011 season. The Hawks were represented on the All-Conference Team with 5 selections and had 6 student-athletes recognized on the Academic All-Conference Team.
Seniors Rob Ritchie-Smith and Allan Coates as well as Junior Liam Barrett were named to the CCAC All-Conference 1st Team. Rob Ritchie-Smith, Central midfield player, concluded the year with 23 total points from 7 goals and 9 assists. He had a CCAC top 5 ranking in the following categories: Shots, Shots per Game, Points, Points per Game, Overall Assists, and Assists per Game.
Allan Coates, a 2011 team captain, started at Centerback in 16 matches and help to anchor the IIT backline that produced a CCAC best 5 shutouts. Coates saw action in 61 career matches for IIT and is a previous All-Conference selection as well.
Liam Barrett, a 2011 team captain as well, completed the season with 14 goals, 4 assists, and 31 points in his 18 games played at the Forward position. Barrett was ranked 1st in the CCAC for Goals in Conference matches. He led the Conference in Shots (85) and Shots per Game (5 avg/g). He was also had a top 3 ranking in other Conference stat categories including: Points, Points per Game, Goals, and Goals per Game. Barrett is a 3-time All-Conference selection.
Seniors Graeme Port and Sam Winstanley were recognized to the CCAC All-Conference 2nd Team. Graeme Port, a Forwrad, concluded the year with 11 goals, 11 assists, and a team leading 33 points in his 16 games played. He finished ranked 1st in Conference for Season Assists as well as Assists per Game. He also had a top 6 ranking in overall stat categories including: Points, Points per Game, Goals, and Goals per Game. Port was also recognized as the CCAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 12th of this past season.
Keeper, Sam Winstanley, finished the season with a 1.81 Goals Against Average and helped Illinois Tech to 5 shutouts for the year. He was recognized as the CCAC Defensive Player of the Week one time during the season as well as the NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week. Winstanley is the 1st member of the Illinois Tech Men's Soccer program to ever be awarded a National Player of the Week honor. He finished his career at IIT with 14 career shutouts.
6 members of the 2011 squad were recognized for their academic accomplishments and were named to the CCAC All-Academic Team. Junior, Liam Barrett, a Business major. Junior Aleksandar Bogoevski, a Business major. John Connor, a Junior midfielder Architecture Major. Victor Gasca, a Senior defender and an Engineering major. Senior Graeme Port, who will graduate in December, will finish with a degree in Communications. Robert Rixer, a Sophomore forward, is a Business degree.
