CHICAGO, IL - Illinois Tech played a nearly flawless 90 minutes of soccer on their way to a 3-0 win over the host Saint Xavier University.
The win by the Scarlet Hawks was their first ever versus Saint Xavier. The Hawks were winless in eight previous meetings and had never scored more than 1 goal in a single game against the Cougars.
Freshman Hailey Kunkel got the Hawks on the board in the 41st minute with a 45 yard blast on a set piece to put the Scarlet Hawks in the driver's seat 1-0. IIT would hold the Cougars to just two shots in the first half as they went into the break with the lead.
The Scarlet Hawks controlled the possession in the 2nd half and were rewarded with a Marit Tundal goal in the 79th minute. Tundal would assist on a Heather Bickerton goal in the 86th minute to ice the game for the Hawks.
Junior goalkeeper Amy Arnhart collected four saves for the win in goal for the Hawks.
The Scarlet Hawks host their fourth ranked team of the season as they host #20 Robert Morris University this Saturday, October 15th at 5:00 p.m. CST.
