LAKE FOREST, IL - The IIT men's cross country team ran at the Forester Invitational by Lake Forest College on Saturday (Sept.24) in Libertyville, Illinois.
Well, how can we put this? A new course presented new challenges. Through the first 60% of the race we looked strong. At one point I counted 8 of our guys in the top 20 runners. Everything was going well and then the course marshal took a wrong turn. Some of the racers cut the course by about 400 meters, other competitors ran the correct distance and yet others were misguided into running longer. This latter group affected a majority of our team. Some runners hit the finish line a loop early; some athletes were omitted from the results. To put it mildly it was a complete debacle. At least from the parts I could see we looked strong, probably would have finished second if not for the errors. It is just a shame for the guys. We needed a confidence booster and thankfully our guys could do the math and felt comfortable with their efforts.
IIT will travel to Bethel College for Friday's (Oct. 7) Pilot Invitational.
