A history-making performance by Illinois Tech's Goalkeeper Lauren
McCelland (Santa Clarita, Ca.) earned her the Chicagoland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player Defensive Player of the Week honors
for the week ending Oct.12.
This is the first time an athlete from Illinois Tech has received this award.
Team captain, McCelland, set the Scarlet Hawk record for
shutouts in a season with her fifth blanking in goal in a 1-0 victory over DII
opponents, Urbana University (Ohio)
on Oct. 11. She more than earned the record with her performance on that day,
stopping 14 Blue Knight shots.
Three days earlier, on Oct. 8, McCelland and her teammates
made history in another way, securing the program's first-ever victory over CCAC conference
rivals Olivet Nazarene in a 2-1 thriller. In that game, the senior stopped five
shots and allowed just the one goal giving her 19 saves for the week.
