The Hawks win their 7th straight conference game with a dramatic last minute winner against last years conference champions, Judson
Judson, IL - After loosing the conference title to Judson last year in a 2-2 tie, which resulted in Judson winning the league for the fourth straight year, the Hawks were in a determined mood to enact a little revenge on Saturday afternoon when the two sides met for the first time this year. Both teams came into the game having won their previous six games but the Hawks found themselves three points up on their conference rivals in the league standings; due to the fact that Judson had already dropped points earlier on in the year in an away loss to Saint Xavier.
The Hawks were made very aware of the fact that loosing simply wasn't an option in the game if the team wanted to have any hope of winning their first conference title this year. The team got off to the best possible start when in the 10th minute Thiago Jardim rifled a left footed shot past Tyton in the Judson goal to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.
Following the goal Judson came right back into the match as they dominated possession without really creating any goal scoring chances of note. 1-0 was how the score would remain going into the half time break with the Hawks coming out in the second period of play determined to gain more control of the game.
This time however it was the home team that got off to the perfect start in the half when in the 50th minute Jason Parmenter raced onto a through ball before driving a low shot past Michael Tilatti in the Hawks goal to level the game at 1-1.
The rest of the half was a tight affair with both teams trading a host of chances before the Hawks dramatically managed to score a winning goal in the final minutes of play.
A cross field ball from Allan Coates was controlled in the box by right winger Rob Ritchie-Smith before he skipped past his defender and skillfully lofted the ball over the outrushing Tyton in the Judson goal.
The strike sent the Hawks players into delirious celebrations with the team knowing that they only had to hold out for the final minute of play to earn their seventh straight conference victory. This was something that the team easily managed to achieve with the final whistle confirming the Hawks first ever victory over Judson.
The Hawks next game comes this Tuesday in an equally important away encounter against 6-0-0 Cardinal Stritch. The match is another encounter that the Hawks have to win but this time the team will know that in doing so the conference title will also be won for the first time in the programs young history.
