Chicago, Ill. - The Lady Scarlet
Hawks dropped a tough decision to Trinity
International University,
Tuesday night at Stewart Field.
The
Illinois Tech women were unable to keep the second-ranked Trojans from an early
goal off of a corner, but were then motivated to step up their intensity and
began to take control of the game for themselves. IIT created several good
opportunities and were the better team but was unable to finish, with shots going
everywhere except the back of the net. Despite their forward push, TIU got in
another goal with 10 minutes to play in the first half.
A tough
Hawk squad came out in the second half, ready to battle physically and break
the momentum of their opponents. Once again, the IIT women created many chances
for themselves, but they failed to put any of them past the Trinity
International keeper. Scoring ended after TIU notched their third goal in the
72nd minute after the Hawks failed to clear. The game ended in a 3-0
loss for Illinois Tech.
"Despite
what people may say, we did ok tonight," said Coach Peacock. "Trinity is a strong physical team, and they
started the game like a house on fire!
We struggled to contain them early on but after we settled and started
to pass the ball, we really took the game to them. I thought we had some really good chances but
we failed to capitalize. Overall, we
conceded 3 goals because we were out muscled in the box. We lost the fight for the 1st and
2nd ball and ultimately it cost us the game. Regardless, with the injury list we have
right now to give TIU a game is impressive. To actually compete and out play
TIU for parts of the game is fantastic. We have never done that before. We are getting better, and it is only a matter
of time before the results in the big games go our way."
The Scarlet
Hawks travel to Judson
College on Saturday to
battle for a better spot in the playoffs.
The Hawks are looking for the first ever win over Judson.
