Chicago, IL - Illinois Tech Head Soccer Coach, Lee Hitchen, announced today the signing of three new players for the Fall 2007 season. Philip Brierley, Scott McFarlane, and Michael Tilatti are all three high caliber players who will certainly add immediate strength to the Scarlet Hawks. Phil Brierley hails from Preston, England and is transferring to Illinois Tech from NCAA I Loyola University, MD. At Loyola MD, Phil was a stand out performer earning MAAC all-rookie selection honors and an all-conference selection his sophomore year. Previous to enrolling at Loyola, Phil was at the Preston North End center of excellence as well as the Morcambe F.C. academy. During his tenure playing in England Phil was both Lancashire and North West Schools captain and went on to represent England Schools at Uí18 level. Coach Hitchen added, ìTo add someone of Philís stature to our program speaks volumes to where our program is heading. We needed an instant leader and an influential player in our back four and without question Phil will do this. His trail of excellence behind him only serves to confirm that Phil is an outstanding athlete who I hope will flourish while at IIT.î Phil will major in Business at Illinois Tech. Scott McFarlane hails from Glasgow, Scotland and comes to Illinois Tech from Strathclyde University with a real soccer pedigree behind him. Previously playing for Dundee Utd and Livingston F.C. at youth level will give Scott the experience to be a standout performer at IIT. As an 18 year old Scott was called up to the Scottish Schools International squad and has won numerous titles and individual awards during his playing career. Commenting on Scott Coach Hitchen said, ìScott is another player of outstanding ability with a natural left foot. His pace, passing ability, and goal scoring ability from midfield will give our competitors some real problems. Scott being naturally left footed will give us true width and the quality of his deliveries should give us more goal-scoring opportunities.î Scott will be studying business at Illinois Tech. Mike Tillatti hails from Toronto, Canada. Mike is transferring in from NCAA I Big-Ten powerhouse Penn State. Mike red-shirted his freshman year then found himself battling for a spot with a more senior All Big-Ten selection goalkeeper. Being a player with hunger to play he wanted to go to a school where he could play and find the right fit academically. Coach Hitchen commented, ìMike is an outstanding goalkeeper. By not sitting behind a player and transferring out just shows he wants to play. Mike is strong physically with great shot stopping ability and he is incredible kicking from the ground and from his hands. I am very excited about adding Mike and his vocal approach and instruction will only benefit the scarlet hawk team.î Mike carries a 4.0 GPA and will major in Aerospace Engineering.
