The Hawks fly past TIU with a 3-0 win to maintain their 100% conference record and complete a perfect home season
Chicago, IL - The record books may claim that the Hawks lost one home game this season, a 1-0 forfeit loss to Notre Dame College due to an administration mix up, but in actual play the Hawks have now won all eight of their scheduled home fixtures this year. To make this feat even more impressive is the fact that in winning the eight home games the team scored 43 goals and gave up none in return. This means that not only was no visiting team able to pick up a single win or draw against the Hawks at the Hawks Nest this season, but that no team was even able to score in the attempt.
This remarkable achievement was completed on Wednesday night when the Hawks defeated TIU for the first time in the programs history, 3-0. In truth the Hawks probably turned in their worst performance of the year as TIU had much more of the play but the team were still able to find a way to grab a sixth consecutive victory.
First half headed goals from Joe Williams (5) and Diego Dias (19) gave the Hawks a comfortable half time lead before Luke Blakely found himself controversially sent off in the second period of play.
The red card came directly after Blakely conceded a free kick for a strong tackle on one of the opposing TIU players. The very same player then picked himself up off the ground before appearing to run into one of Luke's outstretched arms. The player then fell to the ground signalling that he had been struck which resulted in the assistant referee lifting his flag to inform the referee that he had witnessed Luke swing an elbow; a set of circumstances which eventually led to the English midfielder being shown the red card and dismissed from the field of play.
Loosing a man did not seem to affect the Hawks too much however as a second Diego Dias goal in the 76th minute completed the 3-0 win for the Hawks.
With the win the Hawks now move on to a perfect 6-0 conference record, 10-3-0 overall.
The Hawks will be back in action again this coming Saturday as the team travel to face Judson University in a top of the table encounter. With both teams having won their previous 6 fixtures the result could very well determine the outcome of this years conference championship; although Cardinal Stritch (with a perfect 6-0-0) record are also still firmly in the hunt for the league title.
