CHICAGO, IL - This week marked the return of the migratory patterns of the IIT Scarlet hawk cross country runner. The team members descended upon Chicago over the past weekend ready to start to 2011 campaign. Expectations are high for a team returning nine runners from 2010 including its top six runners from the previous season. Marked improvements and the addition of incoming freshman should prove to be in their favor this fall.
The team returns Zach Gates, Kenny Murphy, Brock Williams, Phil Theisen, Wes Villalobos, Andrew Montague, Philip Cano, Derek Burge-Beckley, and John Pasowicz. Incoming contributions will come from Manuel Leon-Madrigal, transfers Ethan Montague and Felipe Prada, and freshman Samuel Wietlispach and Jefferey Somerfield.
The men will look to improve the school record for XC team time again this year. They currently have improved each of the last eight seasons with 4 of the 5 top team times recorded last fall (2010). In addition four of the returners are currently listed in the IIT school record book for Fastest Times; Gates (3rd/ 25:51), Murphy (16th/ 26:26), Williams (18th/ 26:34) and Theisen (22nd/ 26:40).
The Men’s team will open its season Friday September 2nd at the Earlybird Invitational hosted by Elmhurst College.
