Rio Grande, Ohio - Illinois Tech women's soccer team traveled to Coach Peacock's alma mater, University of Rio Grande, for a Saturday afternoon game. They received maximum points with a 3-0 win over the Red Storm.

Rio Grande, Ohio - Illinois Tech women's soccer team traveled to Coach Peacock's alma mater, University of Rio Grande, for a Saturday afternoon game. They received maximum points with a 3-0 win over the Red Storm.

The Scarlet Hawks came out a little sluggish in the first half and struggled with a less-than-ideal playing field. The game was a physical battle right away, with a Rio Grande player receiving a yellow card in the first half. Despite the difficulties, the Hawks were up 1-0 at half time with an excellent shot by center back, Emily Kunkel with an assist from Noel Deis.

In the second half, the Illinois Tech women were forced to overcome some questionable offside decisions but continued to play their game. The Scarlet Hawks were given a boost of momentum by sophomore Angela Skaar who scored off a corner with an assist from Emily Kunkel. The final goal was scored by Samantha Cosenza after a double assist from Emily Kunkel and Emily Moore.

"It's always nice to come back to your old school," said Coach Peacock. "It's even nicer to get the victory here. Today's conditions forced us to change our approach. It took us a while to figure that out but in the end we worked hard and scored some good goals. Overall I thought we deserved the result."

The Lady Scarlet Hawks head to Upland, Indiana next Wednesday to play Taylor University.
