CHICAGO, IL - The Scarlet Hawks lost 1-3 to Robert Morris University on October 27th. The game was played at the Hawk's home field in Chicago, IL. Erica Delgado, Mary McCabe, and Allison Peirce were recognized for senior night before the game and played their hearts out.
The weather was cold, and rain fell relentlessly throughout the game. The field conditions were poor, and many players were slipping and sliding. The game began a little unorganized as the players were adjusting to the conditions. The ball was constantly in the air and out of bounds. Both teams began to connect more passes and get more opportunities in front of goal as the first half went on. After 45 minutes of play, the game was scoreless.
Robert Morris' Ilana Milkez scored within the first 6 minutes of the second half to leave the Hawks down 0-1. The Hawks continued to play tough and created a few great chances on the opponent's goal. However, RMU's Gifty Applah scored in the 73rd minute of the game to make it 0-2. The Hawks rebounded with a great goal by freshman, Jessica Roberts. Senior, Erica Delgado gained control of the ball on the left side of the pitch and served a beautiful ball right outside of the six. Senior, Mary McCabe got on the end of the cross with a spectacular bike that nearly made it into the back of the net. The goalie blocked McCabe's shot and fumbled the ball inside the six. Roberts made a smart follow up and slotted the ball right passed the goalie. The goal gave IIT momentum, but a controversial call by the ref gave RMU a PK inside the box. Robert Morris' Anne Meshes put the PK away, and the score remained 1-3 until the final whistle.
Great game to IIT seniors Erica Delgado, Mary McCabe, and Allison Pierce. Good Luck and the team will miss you next year!
The Hawk's overall record for the season is 10-8 and 5-5 for the conference. The Hawk's will advance to the first round of play-offs on October 31st. Good Luck Girls!
