IL. - After yesterdays fantastic
season opening victory over Davenport University the Women's Soccer team came
into their second game in as many days with their confidence soaring.
Unfortunately for the Hawks however, they were unable to turn this confidence
into a second consecutive win as they fell just short against Union University,
losing 2-1 in golden goal overtime.
The Hawks grabbed the games opening goal in the 50th
minute when Stephanie Salem bagged her second goal of the year, of a Megan
Sarratt assist. The lead would not last long however as the visiting team
struck back just 5 minutes later, through Lindsey McGary.
Both teams were unable to find the break through before the
end of the 2nd half which sent the game into the dreaded golden goal
overtime. Unfortunately for the Hawks it was to be the visiting team that was
to strike first when Steffi King raced away before she smashed the ball past a
stranded Jessica Carlson in the home teams net.
