Men's Soccer well beaten in opening day fixture in Ohio
Rio Grande, OH - The Men's Soccer team kicked off their 2008 season in the worst possible manner on Saturday night as they fell to a disappointing 6-1 loss in Ohio against an impressive, nationally ranked, Rio Grande side.
The Chicago team surprisingly dominated the early stages of the match and took a deserved lead in the 19th minute when Diego Dias pounced on a spilled Rob Ritchie-Smith shot to put the Hawks one goal up.
The lead was not to last for long however as two quick goals from Callum Morris swung the game in Rio Grande's favour before Marc Young rounded off the first half scoring, giving the Ohio side a 3-1 lead going into the break.
The second half started in a similar fashion to the first with the Hawks again taking the game to Rio Grande but a fourth goal, scored in the 60th minute by Jon Brooks, all but ended the game as a contest.
The Chicago side battled on until the end but two more goals, scored by Neil Harris and Steven O'Hara, resulted in an extremely disappointing 6-1 score line.
