The Hawks lose their second consecutive game in as many days 3-2 to the nations 2nd ranked team - Rio Grande
Chicago, IL. - The result was the same as the previous days disappointing loss to Columbia College but the performance was significantly better as the Hawks ran the 2nd ranked team in the nation, and last years losing NAIA National finalists, Rio Grande right to the wire in a 3-2 loss on Saturday night.
The home team started the brighter of the two teams on the evening and took the lead shortly before the break when junior midfielder Jake Carmichael thundered a right footed strike, from just outside the box, past Nate Walzer in the Rio Grande goal. The visiting team responded with a Scott Bibby strike at the start of the second half but the Hawks retook the lead minutes later when Liam Barrett finished off a fine flowing move to put the home team back into a 2-1 lead.
The lead would last until the closing stages of the game when Rio grabbed a dramatic equaliser, through Sam Fairhurst, before they then snatched a last gasp winner, through a Scott Bibby strike, to condemn the Hawks to their second defeat in as many days.
The Hawks will have to recover fast to get their fledgling season back on track after a disappointing weekend but will be encouraged by the strong performance they turned in on Saturday night.
The team are in action again this weekend as they travel to Indiana to play a double header on Friday and Saturday against Bethel College and Indiana Wesleyan respectively.
