Hawks Shutout Calumet
CHICAGO, IL - Illinois Tech squared off with Calumet College of St. Joe's Wednesday in a mid-week double header at Ed Glancy Field. The Scarlet Hawks jumped out a two run lead in the second inning. Jesse Stepniewski (Skokie, IL) started things with a one out double.
He was followed by an Eddie Morales (Chicago, IL) single and an RBI ground out by Reid Matsumoto (Aiea, HI). Freshman Nick Wise (Mendota, IL) drove in the second run of the inning on a double to deep right center field. The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Bill O'Toole (Evergreen Park, IL) and Jesse Stepniewski hit back to back doubles. 3 runs was more than enough support for the Hawks pitching staff. Branden Schombert (Lockridge, IA) started the game on only 3 days rest and went 6 strong innings only giving up 3 hits and struck out 5 batters. Jesse Stepniewski came in for the same throwing 1 inning without giving up a hit and striking out 2 of the 3 hitters he faced. The Scarlet Hawk offense was led by Bill O'Toole who went 2 for 3 with a run scored and Jesse Stepniewski who went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. The Hawks will complete the double header later on today.
