







Hawks Get 5th Series Sweep of Year
GARY, IN - Illinois Tech traveled to Gary to take on Calumet College of St. Joe's in their last conference game of the year. Illinois Tech took a one run lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Andy Kungis (Palos Heights, IL) to deep center field.
Calumet answered back in their half of the inning with a run of their own. After a scoreless second inning for the Hawks, Calumet scored four times to take a 5-1 lead over the Hawks. The score remained just that until Illinois Tech was able to tie the game in the fourth inning. The four runs came on four hits including singles by Nick Wise (Mendota, IL), Eddie Morales (Chicago, IL), and Bill O'Toole (Evergreen Park, IL). Lorne Turrentine (Chicago, IL) had 2 RBI's on a double as well. Calumet took the lead yet again in their half of the inning as they put another run on the board bringing the score to 6-5. Illinois Tech scored 5 more runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a 2 RBI single by Jesse Stepniewski (Skokie, IL). Calumet was able to score once more but as the rain started coming down Illinois Tech won with a score of 10-7. The game was cut short after the seventh inning though declared official. Illinois Tech scored their 10 runs on 10 hits. The pitching staff of Montoya, O'Brien, and Hotz combined for seven innings with 6 strikeouts and 10 hits. Patrick O'Brien earned his fourth win of the year. The game concludes CCAC play for the Scarlet Hawks 2009 campaign with a record of 18-12. The Hawks finished in fifth place. The Hawks now have an overall record of 23-22 with two more games that are set to take place Saturday and noon at Ed Glancy Field versus non-conference rival University of Chicago.
