Hawks Battle for Game 2 Win

CHICAGO, IL - After taking game 1, the Scarlet Hawks looked to continue their offensive efforts in game 2. Luckily, Illinois Tech was able to do just that as they jumped out to an early 3 run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Andy Kungis (Palos Heights, IL) drove in two runs on a double to left centerfield. He was then driven in himself by first baseman Jesse Stepniewski (Skokie, IL).

Robert Morris answered back with 4 runs of there own over the course of the next two innings. The Hawks came up to bat in the bottom of the third inning trailing 4-3. The offense yet again answered back with 4 more runs in the bottom third inning giving them a 7-3 lead. Illinois Tech scored the runs on 4 hits. Robert Morris again fought back, tying the game at 7 in the fifth inning. With one out in the top of the fifth inning, the Ryan Bouck (Mokena, IL) and Thomas Hotz (Cedar Rapids, IA) hit back to back doubles giving the Hawks an 8-7 lead. That was all that closer Jesse Stepniewski needed as he came in for the last 2 innings striking out 3 with no hits and one walk. Starter James Dodgen (Flagstaff, AZ) went four innings with five strikeouts. Thomas Hotz earned himself a hold as he threw one inning with no hits and a strikeout. The Hawks accumulated 11 hits throughout the game, led by Andy Kungis again who went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Thomas Hotz and Jesse Stepniewski each contributed a 2 for 3 performance of their own. With the win the Hawks now sit on an overall record of 18-20, with a CCAC record of 13-10. With a 4-game winning streak the Hawks will conclude the weekend series tomorrow afternoon in Bensenville with a 1:00 pm double header.
