Hawks Homer Twice in Victory

CHICAGO, IL - The Hawks welcomed the Robert Morris Eagles Saturday afternoon for a 12:00 double header. Despite the prevailing winds blowing out, the score remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Andy Kungis (Palos Heights, IL)singled in Thomas Hotz (Cedar Rapids, IA) giving the Hawks a 1 run lead.


There was no more scoring until the sixth inning when the Hawks broke the game open. With one out and runner on second and third Kungis homered to deep right-centerfield giving him his fourth RBI of the game. The Hawks offense was not done though, as Jesse Stepniewski (Skokie, IL) hit a solo-homerun of his own extending the lead to 5-0. The Eagles battled back in the seventh scoring 2 runs, but Illinois Tech was able to hold the lead winning the game 5-2. Kungis led the Scarlet Hawk hitters going 2 for 3 with a homerun and 4 RBI's. Branden Schombert (Lockridge, IA) threw a complete game for the Hawks without giving up an earned run. Schombert finished the game giving up 5 hits and striking out 5 hitters. With the victory, Illinois Tech improves to 12-10 in conference play and 7-4 at Ed Glancy Field. The two team will square off later this afternoon for game 2.
