Chicago, Ill. - Coach
Bond is proud to announce the newest additions to the Men's Scarlet Hawk
Swimming and Diving team today. Each of these four men brings a great
deal of experience to the program and all will be expected to contribute to the
national team as freshmen.
Matthew Rosenfeld signs from Las Vegas,
NV (Sierra Vista HS) and will be studying Aerospace Engineering beginning this fall. His top events are
the 100 and 200 Backstroke, where Coach Bond expects he will be a national
qualifier for the team in 2010. "Matthew shows a great dealof
potential in the backstroke events and I believe he has the talent to be our
school record holder before he graduates." says Bond. "This guy
is a leader in and out of the pool and he fits the mold of the Illinois Tech student-athlete with a great deal of success in the classroom,
too."
Eric Grunden signs from Columbus,
OH (St. Charles Prep) and will bestudying Mechanical Engineering beginning this fall. His top eventsare the 100 Breaststroke and the 50 Free, where Bond believes Eric can immediately
score points for the team at nationals. He was part ofthe 2009 Ohio
state champion 200 Medley Relay for the St. Charles Cardinals that led the team to a 2nd place finish at the Ohio state championships. He contributed individually in the 50 Freeand 100Breast, scoring points in both. Coach Bond says, "Eric brings a wealth
of championship experience to the team. With two automatic All
American and two Consideration All American performances to finishhis
career, I trust that Eric knows what it takes to compete at thislevel."
Bond went on to say, "His experience with a great high school program will
fit in perfectly with the winning attitude we expect from our athletes."
Ian McNair signs from Palatine,
IL (Palatine HS) and will be
studyingPhysics beginning in the fall. Ian will dive for the Scarlet Hawksand has already shown the ability to score points at the nationalchampionships for the team. He was a sectional champion this pastyear, which qualified him 16th for the Illinois
high school state. Coach Nelson is excited to work with Ian and says, "Ian is going to befun to work with. His 1 meter diving is excellent and he is excitedto work on the 3 meter board. I can see him being an All American for this team with some hard work."
Jeff Grindel signs from Richland,
WA (Hanford HS) and will be studyingPhysics or Computer Engineering in the fall. His best events are the 100
and 200 Breaststroke, which Coach Bond expects Jeff to qualify for nationals in
right away. As a state finalist his senior year of high school, Jeff has really shown great improvement in his times over the past year. "I am excited to see how much Jeff can continue to develop
and improve. He had some major time drops this past year and I think we
can keep that momentum going with some direct focus on hisbreaststroke training." Bond said. "Jeff could prove to
be our diamond in the rough this year."
These four are just the first of what Coach Bond expects will be his deepest recruiting class yet for the men's swimming and diving program. Look for future updates as athletes commit.
