Hawks Come Up Just Short

CHICAGO, IL - The Scarlet Hawks squared off with Trinity International at home on Friday for the first of the 3-game weekend series. Trinity International took an early lead as they scored 2 runs in the first inning.


Illinois Tech scored in the second inning on a Jesse Stepniewski (Skokie, IL) single after Andy Kungis (Palos Heights, IL) doubled to start off the inning. In the fifth inning the Trojans answer back with 3 additional runs of their own extending their lead. Illinois Tech scored another run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Bill O'Toole (Evergreen Park, IL) sacrifice fly. The Hawks tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning on a 2 RBI drive by third baseman Brian Sklena (Skokie, IL). With the game tied TIU scored 3 times in the top of the seventh regaining the lead. The Hawks scored twice more in the eighth brining them within a run on a 2 out double by Kyle Guglielmo (Castroville, CA). The Scarlet Hawks threatened in the ninth inning though failed to score dropping the game 8-7. The Hawks had several batters with multiple hits as they accumulated 11 hits throughout the game. Luis Montoya (Chicago, IL) started the game for the Hawks going 4 and a third innings striking out 3. Patrick O'Brien (Niles, IL), Nick Wise (Mendota, IL) and Jesse Stepniewski combined for 5 innings in relief letting up 5 hits and striking out 4. The Hawks are set to continue the series tomorrow in Deerfield with Trinity International.
