Hawks Win 5-4

DEERFIELD, IL - After taking game 1 earlier today, the Scarlet Hawks tried to keep the momentum going in game 2. The Hawks got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on back to back doubles by Bill O'Toole (Evergreen Park, IL) and Andy Kungis (Palos Heights, IL).


The Trojans answered back in their half of the inning though with 2 runs of their own. Illinois Tech kept the scoring going in the second inning as they scored 3 additional runs on doubles by Jesse Stepniewski (Skokie, IL) and Ryan Bouck (Mokena, IL). The Hawks carried the 5-2 lead into the fifth inning when Trinity International scored a run closing the gap. TIU scored again in the sixth, but the Hawks were able to hold on to the lead winning the game 5-4. Ryan Bouck led the Hawks offensively going 2 for 3, scoring a run as well as driving two runs in. Andy Kungis added a 3 for 4 performance with 2 doubles of his own. James Dodgen (Flagstaff, AZ) started the game for Illinois Tech going 5 innings and striking out 5 batters. Thomas Hotz (Cedar Rapids, IA) earned the save as he threw 1 inning without giving up a hit and striking out 1 of the 3 batters he faced. Illinois Tech is set to play next Tuesday at Northwestern in a non-conference matchup in Evanston.
