Schombert K's 10 in Hawks Win!
CHICAGO, IL - Illinois Tech was set to continue the 3 game weekend series today with game 1 today at Ed Glancy Field. The Hawks took the lead in the first inning as they scored 3 runs with 2 outs.
Bill O'Toole (Evergreen Park, IL) brought in the first two runs on a double to right-centerfield. Andrew Kungis followed that up with an RBI single of his own. After Cardinal Stritch scored a run in the third inning the Hawks were able to score another run in the fourth inning on a Thomas Hotz (Cedar Rapids, IA) RBI single. The Scarlet Hawks added yet another insurance run in the fifth inning on a Ryan Bouck (Mokena, IL) single. That was more than enough support for starter Branden Schombert (Lockridge, IA) who went 5 strong innings striking out 10 hitters and only giving up 4 hits. Jesse Stepniewski (Skokie, IL) came in to close the final 2 innings of the game without giving up a hit. Bill O'Toole led the Scarlet Hawks offensively as he went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Despite the Hawks leaving 12 runners on base they were able to take the 5-1 victory. With the win the Hawks are now 8-8 in CCAC play and will look for the series sweep later on this afternoon.
