Hawks Compile 20 Hits in Win Over ONU

BOURBONNAIS, IL - The Men's Baseball Team traveled to Bourbonnais Saturday morning to complete the 3 game series with Olivet Nazarene. The Scarlet Hawks jumped out to an early lead on a sacrifice fly by catcher Kyle Guglielmo (Castroville, CA). Scoring resumed again in the second inning for the Hawks on an RBI single by freshman Reid Matsumoto (Aiea, HI).


The Scarlet Hawks were able to add 3 more runs on 4 hits in the top half of the fifth inning extending their lead to 5. After Olivet tied the game with a 5 run fifth inning of their own, the resilient offense of the Hawks came right back in the sixth inning scoring 4 more runs on back to back doubles by Thomas Hotz (Cedar Rapids, IA) and Kyle Guglielmo. The tigers were able to tie the game at 9 in the bottom half of the sixth. After going into extra innings the Scarlet Hawks put 3 runs on the board after Andy Kungis (Palos Heights, IL) singled Kyle Guglielmo in. The Hawks were able to hold of Olivet in the bottom half of the inning finishing with a 12 - 9 win. Branden Schombert (Lockridge, IA) went 5 1/3 innings striking out 4 while giving up 3 earned runs. Jesse Stepniewski came in to finish the game throwing 2 2/3 innings not giving up a run and struck out 2 hitters of his own. With the win the Scarlet Hawks now stand at 1-1 in CCAC play and will finish the second half of the double header later on today.
