Men's Baseball Drops Conference Opener
CHICAGO, IL - The Scarlet Hawks opened at home today with the first conference game of the year against Olivet Nazarene. The cold weather dictated a pitching dual. Freshman Luis Montoya (Chicago, IL) threw a complete game only giving up 1 earned run, 4 hits, and 4 strikeouts.
Montoya dominated the game only giving up 1 extra base hit. Despite the gutsy performance by the freshman southpaw, the Hawks struggled to generate offense themselves although they were able to accumulate 6 hits. An RBI single by Kyle Guglielmo (Castroville, CA) tied the game at 1 in the sixth inning. After scoring an unearned run in the fifth inning the Tigers of Olivet were not able to score again until the ninth inning. The Hawks will look to bounce back tomorrow with a double header at Olivet starting at 12:30.
