Chicago, IL. - Friday night was a night to remember at Keating Sports Centre as the Women's Basketball team held their ‘Think Pink' seniors game against Taylor University Fort Wayne.
The ‘Think Pink' game, which saw the home crowd don pink t-shirts and the Hawks players sporting pink warm up tops and game socks, was put on to celebrate the life of Frostella Johnson; Coach Johnson's mother who sadly passed away from cancer five years previous. Donations were made throughout the evening to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund with fans and players alike showing their support for the cause with their fantastically bright display of pink.
The evening also saw the team honor their two outgoing seniors Lisa Reed and Jackie Puschkar with both players receiving life size basketball photographs, of themselves in action for the Hawks, before they both then each received a standing ovation from the home crowd for there efforts over the years. Puschkar also received a special added surprise during her presentation as she was presented with a commemorative ball by Coach Johnson to mark her 1000th career point, a feat she achieved unknowingly in her previous game against Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.
The game itself was fitting of the occasion as the Hawks put on a dazzling performance which saw the team pick up their first win in ten attempts. Top scorers for the Hawks on the night were Najarian and Puschkar, with each player scoring 17 points apiece, whilst Joiner and Diamond chipped in with another 10 points each to help the Hawks on their way to an extremely entertaining 74-70 victory.
The win sees the team bump a recent 10 game loosing streak and improve their season record to 8-19.
The Hawks next game comes as early as tomorrow as the team return to conference action in a tough away encounter against the University of Saint Francis.
