Men's Swimming and Diving - Fri, Feb. 29, 2008
Day 2:
Sophomore Branden Toro broke the Illinois Tech school record for 1M diving today on his way to his first national title. In fact, his 488.45 point total is the 4th highest point total ever at the NAIA National Championship Meet in the 1M event. This national championship is the 6th in school history and the 5th in the past 7 years. For Coach Nelson, the diving coach, it is his first national champion. For Branden, the first place finish also represents his 4th All American recognition in only 4 tries over the past two years.
The women's 200 Medley Relay led the way for the swimmers today as the foursome of Sarah Stone, Teresa Arribas, Samantha Staley and Nicolle Mallinger fought their way to a 6th place finish. Staley and Mallinger (both in the 200 IM) were joined by Joe Muchna (500 Free), Andrew Mehr (50 Free) and Kyle Pinsonneault (50 Free) as the only swimmers to score individual points in Thursday's events.
The entire team competes again on Friday with prelims beginning at 10am and finals beginning at 6pm.
