Freshman Stephen Grimm and sophomore Mark Callan joined 8 of their teammates as members of the 2009 NAIA national team.Grimm lead opened the meet with a national cut in the backstroke leg of the 400 Medley Relay. Callan took advantage of his only individual swim of the day by dropping 1.5 seconds in the 100 Fly to clear the national cut by just over a tenth of a second.
Grimm and Callan were just part of the show for the Scarlet Hawk swim team. The 400 Medley Relay of Joe Taylor, Jay Park, Dale Cuffe and Andrew Mehr pulled together a season best performance in the 400 Medley Relay, Their time of 3:34.08 was over two seconds faster than any previous season performance and puts the foursome in the 4th spot on the school's all time list. Taylor, Cuffe and Mehr were joined by Kyle Pinsonneault for the 400 Free Relay and saw similar results. The relay time of 3:11.12 was almost 3 seconds faster than any other swim this year and puts the foursome 4th on the school's all time list. Cuffe saw individual success as he posted the only win of the day for the Scarlet Hawk men with a victory in the 200 Freestyle. His time of 1:43.16 is good enough for 2nd all time in school history and a mere .16 off of the school record.
The team finishes the dual meet season with a home meet against Lake Forest College this Saturday. Competition begins at 11am.
